Rodney "Short Story" Dove

Beloved father, brother and friend Rodney Kent Dove passed from this earthly world Tuesday morning the 23rd of July 2013. Rodney was 57 years old and had been having serious health issues for some time.
Rodney was born in Lubbock, Texas at Reese Air Force Base to Billy C. Dove, Sr. and Margie McIntosh Dove on January 25th 1956. Rodney moved with his family to Livingston shortly thereafter. Rodney attended Livingston Schools 1st through 12th grades and was a long time Livingston resident.
Rodney was a free and unique spirit. Early in his life Rodney was bitten with the motorcycle bug and was a lifelong motorcycle enthusiast and loved to ply the roadways on his Harley Davidson Motorcycle. Rodney' many adventures could fill a book.
After high school, Rodney was engaged for many years in the construction industry as a floor mechanic, laying carpet and vinyl floors all around the Polk County area. Rodney married Sheryl Sumner in 1989. Sheryl and Rodney had one child Laura Dove. Shortly after Rodney and Sheryl married they moved to Rhode Island where Rodney worked mostly odd maintenance jobs. Having not made their fortune in the Northeast, Rodney and Sheryl decided to move back to Texas. Rodney rode his Harley Davidson Sportster motorcycle the entire distance back to Texas as Sheryl followed in the car. Rodney describes this as quite an adventure. After returning to Livingston, Rodney attended Angelina Junior College in Lufkin, earning his full Paramedic certification and was employed for many years in the Houston area with United Ambulance Service as a paramedic. Rodney and Sheryl eventually divorced, with Rodney remaining in Livingston. Rodney' health took a downturn about 6 years ago, resulting in total kidney failure and his having been receiving dialysis for a number of years. Most recently Rodney underwent a single heart bypass and amputation of his left leg. None of this, however, deterred Rodney from his love of riding, as he continued to ride whenever he could and most recently purchased a sidecar for his motorcycle so he could continue to ride, even though he was an amputee. This project was just completed, but he never got the chance to ride again. Rodney was also a talented story teller and could have you rolling on the floor listening to him tell the stories of his many exploits. His free spirit and sense of humor will be missed, as will his love for his family and friends.
Rodney is pre-deceased by his parents, Billy C. Dove, Sr. and Margie McIntosh Dove. Rodney is survived by his daughter, Laura Dove of Livingston; brother, Billy C. Dove, Jr. and wife Gail M. Dove of Shepherd; sister, Kimberly Dove Daniel and husband Mike Daniel of Conroe; sister, Tracy Dove Laux and husband Doug Laux of Longview; special family friend, Tori Maricelli of Livingston; uncle and aunt, Bascomb and Bettye Dove of Coldspring; many nephews, nieces, friends and his brothers of the Livingston Chapter of the San Jacinto High Rollers Motorcycle Club.
Rodney will be escorted to his grave by pallbearers, Hank Keller, Ronnie Long, Jeremy Munnerlyn, Billy C. Dove III, Elmer May, and Jeff Ruperburg. Deek Emmons is an honorary pallbearer.
Services will be at Cochran Funeral Home Livingston Saturday July 27th at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Jonesville cemetery in Huntington Texas. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Rodney' name to your favorite charity.
